Deep Roots outing to Turner’s Creek State Park in Kent County, MD June 17, 2012
This was our first of 3 summer events to build a mentoring base for children and young people whose lives have been disrupted and challenged because of homelessness. Our goal is to let these young people know that there is hope; that people who have never met them before do care about what happens to them and are willing to go the extra mile to be of ongoing support and encouragement. It’s mainly to bring God’s love into the equation for their lives.
On Father’s day we had 15 young people and 13 parents and supporters who were on our first outing at Turner’s Creek State Park in Kent County, Maryland. Former Congressman Wayne Gilchrest hosted us for a day of education in nature, trail hiking, and canoeing. We stated with a picnic lunch with food donated by your church! It was the beginning of a completely wonderful day, picture perfect weather, in which people who had never met before joined in fellowship and a good time together.
